Current Land Holdings 1.3 million acres (45 percent of original land grant of 2.9 million acres)

Trust Requirements Lands are held in trust pursuant to the state enabling act and state constitution. The Board of Educational Lands and Funds is now the Constitutionally established Trustee of Nebraska's School Trust Lands. The Board consists of five members, four from Nebraska's congressional districts as they existed on January 1, 1961, and one at large, appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Legislature to rotating five year terms. The Board is governed entirely by trust law and its Trustee members are legally bound to fulfill exclusively the Trust duties of maximizing the income and preserving the assets of the School Trust for the benefit of the State and its citizens.
